Dr. Dre Links Up With Best Buy For "Club Beats" Deal

Dr. Dre has teamed with mega electronic retailer Best Buy to launch an in-store venture which will feature his Beats headphone and deejay equipment in roughly 300 stores.

The partnership will also include multiple in-store visits from the Doc and other Interscope Records artists.

Best Buy is launching the venture, called Club Beats, in partnership with audio company Monster and Beats Electronics, an equipment company founded by hip-hop artist Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine. Club Beats will sell headphones and cables by both Monster and Beats and Best Buy will be putting the concept in 300 stores; seven locations will include bigger, more sophisticated areas that Best Buy is using to kick off the debut; a Miami kickoff will feature local DJs, a Richfield, Minn., event will include the hip-hop band LMFAO. To help promote the new Club Beats, Best Buy will host a series of events featuring appearances from top music artists including Lady Gaga, Will.i.am and Dr. Dre. (Biz Journals)

A Best Buy representative has confirmed the venture and explained its significance for consumers.

"It may not be simple to find these products in a mainstream environment -- either you have to know what you need, or you have to talk to someone who is in the industry," said Wendy Fritz, svp of merchandising for mobility for Best Buy. "What we're trying to say is 'hey you can do this,' and when they come into the store our Blue Shirts can say 'These are the three or four products you need to get started.'" (Billboard Biz)

Aside from headphones, Dre recently partnered with computer giant Hewlett-Packard for a new line of laptops called ENVY.

What will make the Dr. Dre x HP Envy so special in which they declare as the 'Mac killer' is not just the sleek design but true to Dr. Dre style - it's all about the sound. The HP Envy will be the first laptop to feature a 'cutting-edge' sound system designed by Dr. Dre's sound engineers labeled 'Beats Audio.' The 'Beats Audio' sound software was developed by the same folks that engineer Dre's tracks and also helped design the Beats by Dre headphone line. According to HP, Dre has developed 'a unique, high-performance audio software solution. Available exclusively on the HP Envy, Beats Audio offers users playing music or audio through headphones or external speakers the optimal sound experience the way the artist intended it.'
